Hey everyone! Today I wanted to touch on one of the biggest topics in the world at the moment, pets! You can have all kinds of pets, from fish to bearded dragons but here’s my personal take on the best pet you can get for the family.
Here’s a clue
It’s a puppy! I won’t discount that cats can be amazing companions as can many other animals, but for young children especially dogs can be a little more… ‘snuggly’. There’s a large debate at the moment around buying from breeders vs rescuing puppies, but unfortunately from a family perspective as you don’t know the adopted puppies’ past you can’t adopt if you have a young family, as great as the puppy may seem.
Companionship
Everyone knows that having a new friend around the home fills it with more love, and the same can be said for puppies. They’re always up for fun, snuggles and they make the best chill out partners too. TV on, feet up, dog on your chest, there’s no better feeling, trust me!
Excuse to get out
Here’s the big one, and the reason having a puppy is so great for a family too is that having a puppy is a great excuse to see the great outdoors. When your puppy is very young you can only go for short walks whilst her legs grow, but once your puppy is a few weeks older the distances get longer and longer and then are unlimited. Start off in the fields, and in a year you’ll be in yellowstone!
Training
One thing I will touch on is proper training though, your puppies need to be socialized from 10-12 weeks old so they don’t become aggressive with other breeds. The next step will be a 6-12 week training programme to teach your dog everything it needs to know to understand you and the boundaries, plus some neat tricks for parties!
Conclusion
To conclude, a puppy is absolutely the perfect pet to get for your family. They are loyal, happy and beautiful animals that require a small amount of initial work for the perfect family life partner.
If you have a dog and you agree, get in touch and let me know! I’d love to hear your dog’s mischievous stories!
